1. As a member of the Caste of Builders, take pride in the work that you do. A pride deep and strong, arising from the feeling of accomplishment of taking nature's gifts, and turning them into the most marvelous structures on Gor.

2. As a member of the Caste of Builders, dedication to the craft is expected. Once you start a project dedicate yourself to the successful completion of the project and ensure every detail and every aspect is in done according to the proper specification.

3. Free women of the Caste of Builders should remember the physical limitations bestowed on them by nature, and not attempt to perform any heavy or exacting physical labor associated with building projects. To do so is seen as demeaning to both the woman and to the Caste unless the need is great. Remember, all Free women, not only those of the Builders would bring a stone to add to a City's walls when it was allowed to be rebuilt after destruction by the Priest Kings. Activities such as interior design, small landscaping jobs, fine woodworking are more suitable to a Free woman then the toting and setting of blocks of granite or other strenuous activities. However, as a Free woman she is free to own and/or oversee any Caste task as long as she is capable and knowledgeable of doing so and simply hire a crew to do the heavy labor.

4. As a member of the Caste, you have a responsibility to your Caste Brethren. A Builder shall always treat another Caste Brother or Sister with honor and devotion. This treatment extends to Caste Brethren of other Cities, as well as those of your own.

5. As a member of the Caste of Builders, you have a responsibility to place the good of the Caste before that of any single member even yourself, and any Builder found demeaning the Caste by their actions should be reported so that appropriate action can be taken to restore the integrity of the Caste. Actions such as cheating clients, using inferior materials to increase personal profit, and claiming association in another Caste are grounds for a member to be stripped of rank, or even expelled from the Caste (outcasting). Due to the fact that Caste is a primarily a matter of birth on Gor, and not a sign of occupation, Builders can engage in the activities and pursuits of other Castes, such as trade and shop keeping without demeaning the Caste. However, it is important that any such activity have a relationship to the core duties and skills of the Caste to avoid possible demeaning of the Caste. For example, a Builder in a small City might run a mill and sell lumber, or even act as a village Scribe if no other dweller can read or write.

6. While Builders are Builders are Builders, many opt to choose a specialty, or subclass to better define their activities. These typically include the following: Infrastructure - roads, drainage, dams, tunnels and transportation Buildings and Residences. Shipbuilders - Builders of ships, yards and docks. Military - fortifications, weapon emplacements, weapons and outposts. Communications - signaling planning and procedures. While it is not essential for a character to go to this level, it is encouraged.

OCC Rules:

1. In order to be licensed by LBGor, a character must satisfy one of the two book criteria of Caste Membership: a. Be born into the Caste b. Serve a trial period, during which they show an aptitude for the Caste and are recommended by a Caste member in good standing (i.e., a member of LBGor, and not an NPC).

2. Ranking of LBGor is unrelated to ranking of the IC character. However, LBGor ranking must be listed in a character's profile is it is different from the claimed ranking of the character.

3. Rank and Rank Advancement is as follows: (to be further flushed out in a later e-mail).

a. All members start as an apprentice. During the apprenticeship period, the character is expected to RP out study in the architectural design of their intended specialty as well as the engineering and/or labor of building specialty and general training in the Caste.

b. Under Journeyman. Upon documentation of a completion of an apprenticeship, and the passing of testing in Caste operations, an apprentice becomes an under journeyman. During this period the Builder furthers his knowledge of his craft under the supervision of others, typically higher level Builders within his City, or a Master Builder specializing in his chosen field.

c, Free Journeyman. Upon documentation of training (logs) and recommendation for advancement, an under Journeyman becomes a Free Journeyman. This is the basic level for all Builders on Gor, and typically is as far as Builders go. These are the Builders who work for themselves, or travel between cities to provide major work projects their specialized skill. At this level, a Builder need no longer submit logs, unless they wish to become a Master Builder.

T o maintain their skills, a Builder must practice his craft as a journeyman, and this means he must periodically Upon completion of their apprenticeship, the apprentice will then work as a journeyman with the aid of a licensed builder. (The Licensed Builder may be an NPC character if a playable licensed builder cannot be found within your city.) After they have worked for an adequate amount of time in actual role play situations (and have obtained logs of their work) the licensed builder will send notification to the head of the Builders Caste to say that the journeyman is ready for his or her own license. Upon receiving that License, the builder can then work on their own, taking an apprentice of their own if they wish to do so. (If the licensed builder is an NPC character, the journeyman should send logs to the caste scribe themselves) · A free woman may be a member of the caste, but may not perform any physical building aside from interior design, small landscaping jobs, fine woodworking and other such non strenuous activities. She may however, own and/or oversee such tasks as long as she is capable of doing so. (Meaning that she posses the knowledge of what to do in order to complete the job herself if need be) · Lower-caste workers such as peasants may aspire to be a member of the Builders Caste according to the wisdom and judgment of their respective employers. The Builder that hired the low caste worker must be of the Master's status. The Master will then put the low caste worker into an apprenticeship program. Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, the newly appointed builder must serve as a journeyman for a period of up to one year, where they would continue on their path to obtain a license as would a builder born into the caste. · Builders shall provide each client with a set of specifications and estimates of costs to which the client must agree to in the form of a contract. (If the builders mun is capable of sending drawings and plans, this will embellish the package and serve well into raising their characters status to that of Master Builder) · During times of construction, the builder shall provide the client with a schedule of activities and periodic updates of progress. (Logs should be made of any and all role play actions in rooms and e-mail as this will serve as documentation of the builders skill in the completion of the task at hand.) · Changes to the contract must be through mutual agreement of the builder and client. · The builders shall be free to procure the necessary workforce through local available labor, peasants, or NPC's. · A builder shall treat another builder as his brother with honor and devotion to the Builders' Caste. Any builder found cheating his client will be stripped of his title, rank and his license.
